A consensus mechanism. Like “proof of work” but a different form.
It is more accesable, as it simply requires you to simply hold a certain amount of coins to contribute to the network. As opposed to proof of work, which requires heavy technology to provide power. The argument against this form is the centralization, as it means only a couple of wealthy few will actually be able to contribute, since there is often a minimum amount required to hold.
Though the same could be said for proof of work, since it would require expensive equipment to run a node.
This could be solved by creating a pool to stake (meaning multiple parties provides coins to 1 party which runs the actual node), which of course brings the downside of needing to have a trusted party.
