Abbrevation for “Initial DEX Offering” Meaning the first step in the coin being sold (altough a private sale is often done first). The organisation behind the crypto project sells the coin, you can buy it directly from them then. In contrary to buying it on a cex or dex, where you actually buy it from the marketplace or someone else.
You directly invest into the organisation, since you buy the token from them directly. You can buy early into a project, since it’s the first moment it’s being sold. Once the token hits the market (through a cex or dex) the price may be higher.
It is a decentralized version of a ICO, altough most require KYC these days, so who are they kidding? Where an ICO usually means launching the token on a CEX afterwards, IDO’s often after launching hit a DEX first.
You can also buy it on an IDO launchpad. Which is a place (organisation behind it) where IDO’s are gathered on 1 place. The benefit being that (if the launchpad is well known) you may find more buyers and the launchpad has experience with IDO’s and could help with the launch.
